Our team

Our caring and experienced team is passionate about providing high-quality care and education. Each staff member is a key person for a small group of children, offering consistent support and helping every child feel safe, valued, and understood.

We work closely with parents and carers to ensure smooth communication and continuity between home and nursery. This strong partnership helps children feel secure and confident in their environment.

A journey inspired by motherhood

The story behind our nursery, in Michelle’s own words

My journey into early years began in 1999 when I became a mum for the first time. Like many parents, I was amazed at how something I knew nothing about suddenly became the most important thing in my world. I found myself fascinated by every milestone, every new skill and every little moment of discovery. I wanted to learn everything I could about how to nurture, protect and support my child to thrive.

Becoming a mum sparked a passion that shaped my entire career.

After 18 months at home, a friend suggested I consider becoming a childminder. The idea instantly felt right. That same day, I contacted the council and began a career that would shape the rest of my life.

I spent 14 wonderful years as a childminder, welcoming many children into my home while raising my own family of four. During this time, I also completed a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies, deepening my knowledge of how children grow, learn and flourish.

Years of hands-on experience and study helped me understand how children learn best.

Through years of experience and learning, I developed a clear vision of what high-quality early years care should feel like — nurturing, personal and full of joy. This vision led me to open The Railway House, a nursery that combines the best parts of a childminder’s home-from-home environment with the opportunities and experiences of a nursery setting.

Although I’m the manager, you’ll still find me spending time with the children every week — setting up exciting areas to explore, getting involved in play and supporting learning through meaningful interactions. Being with the children is the part of my role I love most.

I’m not just the manager — I love spending time with the children every week.

I work closely with our wonderful team, helping them grow their skills so we can support every child and family in the best possible way. Together, we create an environment where learning is playful, curiosity is encouraged and no two days are ever the same.

At The Railway House, we don’t take ourselves too seriously — but we take childhood very seriously. Our days are filled with fun, laughter and discovery, with children leading their own learning supported by warm, responsive adults.

My ethos is simple: to help children grow into happy, healthy and confident individuals in a nursery that truly feels like family.

A nursery where children feel loved, families feel supported and every day brings something new.
